The filament monitor consists of a PCB which senses the rotation of a diametrically magnetised magnet. That magnet is in turn rotated by the filament motion. The angle is reported to the Duet (see section on[[Duet3dFilamentMonitoron [[Duet3dFilamentMonitor RotatingMagnetVersion#Section_Technical_details|technical details]] for how this is done). This diagram shows the general principle.
